A dive into "If He Had Been With Me"

Helloooo fellow book lovers! The Ink-Stained Ghost here, bringing you a fresh review from my ever-growing stack. Today, we're cracking open "If He Had Been With Me" by Laura Nowlin. Get ready, because you know what that means: spoilers ahead! Let's turn some pages and see what I thought about this one.

If He Had Been With Me

I have seen numerous reviews of this book, and the feedback is heavily mixed. Some people have loved it, some people have hated it. I, however, love this book. I read it a few years ago, four at the most, and fell head over heels with Finny. I think I like the book so much because of the tragic ending. Sometimes, happy endings seem so fake. Nowlin made me cry with her ending, and that is very difficult to do. Autumn is a little much sometimes, but overall, a well-written character. The plot primarily revolves around Autumn's discovery of her feelings toward Finny. If you are looking for a deep, detailed plot, this book may not be for you. On my charts its a 4/5 and will have the first spot in the Loved section. -Ink

My takeaway message

The main feeling or message I want readers to get from my review of this book is the profound impact of connection and the bittersweet reality that some stories are destined to be poignant. It’s a book that makes you feel deeply, reminding you of the delicate nature of life and relationships. It’s a testament to how powerful a narrative can be when it truly captures the essence of young love and the devastating ripple effects of fate. Despite its sorrowful undertones, it’s a beautifully written exploration of memory, love, and what it means to truly connect with another soul.
